Are we truly advancing?

“We want that education by which characters are formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one’s feet.” -Swami Vivekananda

I am honored to be a teacher and ! congratulate all the blessed souls and the nation builders of the entire country on this great occasion of Teacher s Day. A teacher is called as a “Guru”. In india, parlance always plays an important role in helping his ardent students to change for the better path of righteousness.

Now, I would like to share few important aspects of School Education. The age old system ot education prioritized by examination and test is ruining the thinking skills of the pupils and participation in extra-curricular activities is not encouraged, but is examinations that are textbook based a true test of one’s knowledge or a GIGO of data? I am in favour of the continuous assessment system. Though the old examination system can help students focus on their studies , it creates a lot of unnecessary pressure on students.

However it allows students to further enhance their abilities for future success. A gradual paradigm shift in thinking is needed in parents and teachers to mould the learners of today. Our main focus is to ensure the conceptual learning of the student. Can we all as a unit bring radical change in Education? This is not just a Mere question but the hurdle that needs to be crossed for this generation to progress in ‘real’ terms. The internet and ICT has already changed our lives in unbelievable ways. The positive note of which should be taken and ensure that learner should be totally benefitted. To meet the diverse demand of the future, critical and innovative style of thinking to be developed through motivation and internalization of the ability.

In terms of curriculum, the quality has to be improved via practical approach vs traditional methods. Goal oriented inspiration to be prioritized.Teacher and mentor should equip with precise thoughts to groom the talent. Professional Approach should be blended with modern technology and ancient wisdom.

Teachers should help the students to polish the strength and brush off failures and weaknesses. The focus should be on the development of skills in the area where the student is good at or has a scope to spruce up. Self learning and group learning has to be blended for the better results; methods like Delphi, brainstorming and concepts of individuation v/s deindividuation should be brought into light. A good rapport to be developed between a teacher and a student where there is a transparency in the exchange of knowledge.

Teachers are to set the tone of their classrooms, build a warm environment, mentor and nurture students, become role models, and listen and look for signs of trouble Research skills need to be introduced at school level to inculcate the scientific approach towards problem solving, formulation of hypothesis and coming up with a possible solution to such problems. A teacher ‘s a person who will have to fill many roles. They are people with educational leadership skills and they must continue to grow and develop as professionals. In conclusion, let’s inspire the younger generation to think and learn freely and discard the age old thoughts. Let the child outshine his teacher and parent. Ultimately Dear Teachers! Let’s truly take up the words of Steve Jobs. “The ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who do.” Let’s all be the pioneers who can withstand change of all sorts.
